Key technologies and programmes

a) Individual equipment and light weaponry for a soldier

The Slovenian defence industry can fully dress and equip a soldier with all the protective means, weapons, optoelectronic equipment, etc.

b) Maintenance and modernisation of tanks

The Slovenian defence industry is capable of providing full maintenance and modernisation of T-tanks. The essential elements of modernisation are based on completely own day/night thermal imaging optoelectronic fire control systems for tanks developed by the FOTONA company.

c) Production of light armoured vehicles and military trucks A licensing production of Steyr?s Pandur-type light armoured vehicle under its own tradename VALUK has been established, and today the share of the Slovenian defence industry is already worth mentioning. VALUK?s are assembled in the STO Ravne company. Recently, the production of military trucks has been re-established in TVM Maribor. A prototype of a new military truck, manufactured in compliance with the NATO standards, has already successfully passed the Slovenian Army tests and first orders have been placed.

d) Production of artillery systems

The STO company from Ravne produces artillery weapons independently or in co-operation with foreign partners, and the Fotona company can offer complete artillery fire control systems with eye-safe laser rangefinders.

e) Training tools and ammunition

AREX, the producer of biodegradable plastic ammunition for training purposes, is able to offer various calibre. The Slovenian producer KIK Kamnik can also provide replicas of mines. Such training tools are very much needed for demining training and are used by some armies and demining organisations.

f) Mine clearing equipment

Demining is one of very important activities in the SE Europe. The VILPO company developed one of the most cost-effective mine clearing vehicles, which has been used effectively for demining of Croatian minefields. The mine clearing vehicle SAMSON is completely computer-controlled and can be remotely navigated from a safe location.

g) Rapidly assembled containers and inflatable tents A patented system of assembling containers with no tools needed, developed and produced by the IKOR-B company, is an excellent solution for peace-keeping troops, rescue and emergency situations, field hospitals, command centres and soldiers accommodation. Inflatable tents for troops accommodation, field hospitals, warehouses, maintenance facilities, test facilities are produced by company DUOL.
