STN Atlas is a subsidiary of Rheinmetall De Tec AG.

STN ATLAS Elektronik GmbH, Bremen, with its Naval Systems, Simulation Systems and Land and Airborne Systems divisions is one of the leading German companies in the field of electronics and systems engineering.

The company which operates internationally generates an annual turnover of approx. 500 Mio EUR, of which about half is for customers abroad. STN ATLAS has a workforce of 3,000 persons world-wide; approximately 70% of these are technicians and engineers. Subsidiaries and associated companies at home and abroad warrant the necessary vicinity to customers all over the globe.

STN ATLAS is a member of Rheinmetall DeTec AG, the management holding for all defense activities within the Rheinmetall group, which holds 51 per cent of the business shares in STN ATLAS. The other important shareholder is the British aerospace and defence company BAE SYSTEMS with a 49% stake.

Naval Systems: A leading company for sonar and integrated command systems

With its five product departments, the Naval Systems division is one of the leading national and international manufacturers of underwater vehicles, sonar equipment and integrated command and control systems for submarines and ships, naval weapons as well as minehunting and Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) systems. Furthermore, one of the essential qualities of this division relates to its ability to manage major programs as prime contractor.

The Naval Systems division includes the following product departments: Product department Minehunting, Vessel Traffic Services Systems (VTS), Underwater Vehicles, Surface Vessels, Submarines and Naval weapons.

Further STN ATLAS Elektronik owns the important product department Logistics and Projects under Prime Contractorship. This function relates to the product department's ability to coordinate all tasks and work packages associated with extremely complex major orders and to perform these on-schedule and within the budgetary limits. Examples of this competence include the prime contractor responsibility for the new minehunters including the integration of all systems and the responsibility for complete conversion programs. All activities from a first feasibility study to the delivery of the fully equipped ship are under the responsibility of the prime contractor. The essential advantage for customers is that they only have to deal with one main point of contact and not with large numbers of subcontractors.

Simulation Systems:

Safe and environmentally friendly training

Based on the extensive experience available in the Simulation Systems division, STN ATLAS is today rated as one of the leading companies in the field of training, instruction and special simulation. The facilities developed and produced are generally not PC-based but so-called full-scope replica simulators providing a 1:1 reproduction of the original facility on which the training is to be held, irrespective of whether this is a truck simulator with a real driver's cab, the exact reproduction of the control station of a power plant, the bridge on a ship, a cockpit in an aircraft or the combat compartment of a tank. Different systems including laser-based projections systems are available for visualization of the outer view as required in many simulators.

The Simulation Systems division includes the following product departments:

* Land and Battlefield Simulation

* Flight Simulation

* Maritime and Process Simulation.

Land and Airborne Systems: Communication, command and reconnaissance

The main activities in the Land and Airborne Systems division with its two product sections and central logistics department are electronic equipment and systems for the army and aeronautical applications, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems, measurement and test facilities as well as logistics.

The Land and Airborne Systems division includes the product departments Land systems, Airborne Systems and Logistics and Test Systems

Activities in this field are distinguished by highly complex logistic work packages for civil and military applications in the aeronautical and army sector. The involvement in technical publications and logistic services for the international Airbus program is one particular focus in this connection.

The use of advanced computer technologies has likewise enabled considerable advances in the logistics sector: interactive, multimedia systems e.g. for comprehensive repair instructions and manuals on CD-ROM or networked logistic systems have become a standard service.

In the test systems sector, the main emphasis is on development and integration work for external test systems for electronic and optic equipment as well as aeronautical subsystems. This is accomplished by use of COTS equipment, VXI technology, standardized interfaces and various programming languages.
