The past few years have seen security risks be­come more complex and threats to the security of a country emerge on different levels. The realization that domestic and foreign security can no longer be regarded as separate entities has led to a wider range of missions not only for the armed forces but also for the police and security forces and to their missions becoming more closely interlinked. The goal, therefore, is: To have the situation in trouble spots under control again as early as possible. This requires vehicles which are capable of fulfilling both mission profiles optimally.

The wider range of missions for the armed and security forces and their increasingly interlinked nature have stepped up the requirements placed on modern, armoured vehicles, in particular relating to their mobility, flexibility and protection. The CON­DOR was designed with the aim of fully meeting these new requirements. This makes the CONDOR an extremely modern and cost-efficient tactical 4x4 multi-role vehicle that is optimally suited to fulfilling a broad band of military and police missions.

Besides its outstanding all-terrain mobility, the CON­DOR also has amphibious capabilities. The vehicle is air-transportable in C-130 HERCULES and in C-160 TRANSALL due to its outer dimensions and combat weight. The CONDOR in its class provides overall protection against small arms, splinters and small mines. The vehicle allows the installation of a variety of mission kits, thus making it possible to create a complete family of vehicles from one basic vehicle.

Many different versions of CONDOR 1, the predecessor of CONDOR 2, have been ship­ped world-wide since 1981 to military and police users. It is in service successfully in Malaysia, Uruguay, Thailand, Portugal and Turkey.

The technical concept of the vehicle makes it particu­larly suited to incorporating the national industry of a future user state in the production of the CONDOR 2 as part of an industrial cooperation or licensing agreement. Logistic support as well is co­vered through the participation of national industrial partners or army workshops as has already been successfully implemented with CONDOR 1.

Not only do its technical and tactical features speak in favour of the CONDOR 2 but also its cost-effective­ness: The vehicle is characterised by a simple and well-designed structure and by its easy-to-maintain profile.

Because commercial off-the-shelf key components from the UNIMOG series are used such as engine, gearbox and axles, users can rely on approx. 4,700 DaimlerChrysler service stations in 170 countries. Furthermore, thanks to the world-wide use of CON-DOR-class vehicles, the CONDOR 2 profits from the firmly established network of logistic support from the well-known global service provided by Rheinmetall Landsysteme.
