The LIW 20 mm G12 automatic cannon is installed in the Reumech OMC Ratel 20 (6 x 6) infantry fighting vehicle and is a locally made version of the French Giat Industries dual feed 20 mm M693 (F2) cannon (see earlier in this section).

Within the designation GI2, the Gl stands for Gun Infantry. Although the main application of the GI2 in South Africa is for the Ratel 20 (6 x 6) infantry fighting vehicle, the GI2 has a number of other applications including helicopter, air defence and naval. As far as is known, the only production applications have been for land systems.

Pretoria Metal Pressings manufactures the following types of 20 x 139 mm ammunition which can be fired by the GI2: APC-T HEI, HEI-T, TP and TP-T. Other natures that can be fired by the GI2 are: APDS, APDS-T, APHEI and APHEIT.
