Developed by the Research and Development Institute of the Argentine armed forces, the 105 mm (16-round) Pampero multiple rocket launcher entered operational service in the mid-1980s.

The 105 mm 16-round launcher assembly, with two rows of eight tubes, is mounted on the rear bed of a modified Mercedes-Benz UNIMOG 416 (4 × 4) 1,500 kg light cross-country truck chassis. If required, the launcher can be fitted to other vehicle types with differing numbers of tubes. Production of the Mercedes-Benz UNIMOG 416 series chassis was completed many years ago.

This system is also referred to as the SLAM Pampero and about 40 systems are understood to have been built, all based on the Mercedes-Benz UNIMOG 416 1,500 kg (4 × 4) chassis with most being delivered to the army. There has been no recent production or marketing of this rocket system.

To provide a more stable firing platform four hydraulically operated stabilisers are lowered, two at the front of the vehicle and two at the rear. Traverse and elevation are manually set via handwheels. Sights are provided for both indirect and direct fire modes.

Single round, partial ripple or full salvo firings are possible. A full salvo takes 7.5 seconds and will fall within a 300 × 200 m area with a maximum claimed round dispersion CEP of less than one per cent. The system has to be manually reloaded.

The single-stage 105 mm rocket utilises a PHE-2 solid propellant fuel filled rocket motor casing with four pop-up tail-mounted guidance fins. The warhead types include training, HE fragmentation, HE incendiary and HE anti-personnel. Maximum range is stated to be 10,100 m. The warshots have either contact or delayed action warhead fuzing options.

There is also an air-to-ground version of the rocket. These rockets are launched from a 6 round aluminium launcher installed on Bell UH-1 helicopters.
