The 107 mm Fadjr-1 multiple rocket launcher system is similar in appearance to the China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO) 107 mm Type 63 MRS (see separate entry). In its standard two-wheeled trailer form it can be moved by vehicle, animals or personnel.
All of these launchers are manufactured by the Armament Industries Division of the Defence Industries Organisation.
The launcher has three banks of four 107 mm barrels and in the trailer form is mounted on a rubber-tyred split pole-type carriage. In the firing position the wheels are normally removed and the launcher is supported by the two trails at the rear which are fitted with spades which are carried on the top of the trails when travelling, and two short legs in front of the carriage. It can also be fired with the two rubber-tyred road wheels still in position on their stub axles.
The optical sight is fitted on the left side of the launcher together with the elevation and traverse handwheels.
The unguided spin stabilised 107 mm rockets used by this launcher are manufactured by the Aerospace Industries Organization, Shahid Bagheri Industries. It is assumed that these Iranian-manufactured rockets can also be fired by foreign 107 mm systems produced by a number of countries, including China, North Korea, South Africa and Turkey. Details of these 107 mm launchers are given a separate entry.
A full salvo of 12 107 mm rockets can cover an area of 200 × 80 m. The full load of 12 rockets can be fired in 7 to 8 seconds and once fired, the launcher is manually reloaded. The shelf-life of the rockets is quoted as 13 years.
