A demonstrator of the Samum Self-Propelled Air Defense Vehicle armed with a ZU-23/30M1-4 anti-aircraft twin gun was first introduced at the "Army-2017" forum. The developer of Samum is Podolsk Electromechanical Plant of Special Machine Building (PEMZ Spetsmash).

ZU-23/30M1-4 antiaircraft twin gun is designed to protect against tactical fighters, assault aircraft, helicopters and UAVs operating at low altitudes at any time of day and reduced visibility. It can fire in automatic, semi-automatic and manual modes.

The target detection radius is at least 8 km. The firing range is up to 2500 meters, the firing height is 1500 meters.

The chassis of the vehicle is designed on the Ural truck basis, it has an independent suspension. It used some units from the BTR-80 8x8 APC.
