AHS-120 is a 120-mm mortar system, designed by the Turkish company Aselsan.
For the first time it was presented under the name ALKAR during the International Defense Industry Exhibition IDEF, which was held in February 2017. In December 2017, Aselsan announced the successful testing of AHS-120.
ALKAR is a unit for firing 120-mm mines from a mobile platform or from a stationary position.
The purpose of Aselsan with the AHS-120 program was to ensure the process of mortar fire in automated mode due to the use of modern fire control systems, as well as increasing safety and efficiency.
ALKAR has an automatic levelling system, an automatic ammunition loading system, a damping mechanism and a fire control system. Aselsan claims that the launcher can use "any kind" of rifled or smoothbore mortar, including those produced in Turkey.
ALKAR can rotate 360 degrees and work day or night, in any climatic and weather conditions.
When using it as a weapon station for self-propelled mortars, the ALKAR recoil mechanism reduces the force acting on the base platform when firing. This allows potential users to adapt ALKAR to a variety of platforms, including potentially more light wheeled vehicles.
The ALKAR electronic system can provide ballistic calculations (using ballistic information about NATO armaments), measure wind speed, display battlefield information and integrate with the radar target designation system, meteorological sensors and advanced surveillance systems.
