Portsmouth Aviation Limited (PA) provides design and manufacture of a diverse range of products for defence forces around the globe, including;
* nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) air filtration stations * practice bombs * bomb tails for air-dropped stores * aircraft weapon loaders * torpedo release units
PA is also the design authority for the UK 1000 lb (450 kg) laser-guided bomb. The Company operates a quality management system which has been assessed to the quality system standard BS EN ISO 9001.
NBC air filtration units – land and sea
PA has designed and manufactured NBC air filtration units (AFUs) for many years, including the well-known AFUs Nos 3, 6 and 7. PA has supplied this system to the UK Ministry of Defence for the Type 45 Destroyer, Landing Platform Dock vessel, the Auxiliary Oilers and the latest UK survey vessels. Radial filter units have also been designed for retrofit into a class of Royal Navy frigates.
The latest development in this product range is an AFU with a radial filter element, which is a composite filter for removing both particulate and gaseous agents. The units are fitted in stainless steel tubes, the required total airflow being achieved by using an assembly of several tubes. A patented closure mechanism secures and maintains the sealing integrity throughout the filter stack using a simple central fixing which enables the filter elements to be changed easily from outside the citadel. The tubes, together with a bypass tube and a control cabinet, form the core of the NBC air filtration system. The optional bypass arrangement allows filters to remain sealed in their tubes until they are needed, greatly extending operational life. If required, the system can be fully automated so that a signal from a NBC sensor initiates operation of the system without human intervention.
There is an increasing risk that buildings, both military and commercial, could be subjected to NBC attack. A CPS is as important to protect life and ensure continued operation in buildings as it is in warships. Our NBC AFUs are as suited to the more benign environment of building protection as they are to warships.
We can:
* Recommend the optimum type and arrangement of NBC AFUs for any building. * Provide freestanding decontamination and air lock units. * To assist in the process of integration an initial site survey and assessment appraisal are conducted. * Work with building contractors on the installation and setting to work of the system. |
