Allison Transmission's X200-5 automatic transmission is a variant of the X200-4A automatic transmission (covered in the previous entry) intended for use with low-speed diesel engines installed in the United Defense M113 class of tracked combat vehicles.
It is another member of Allison's X-series of tracked vehicle transmission products that include the X1100-3B (M1/M1A1/M1A2 MBT), X1100-5 (Razorback AVLB) and X300 (UK Alvis Vehicles Warrior and Hagglunds Vehicle CV90 family). The X200-5 transmission first entered production in 1996 used with a 2,300 rpm full load governed engine.
The X200-5 exhibits a 90 per cent commonality with the highly reliable, successful X200-4A transmission of the M113 Family Of Vehicles (FOV) and is an advanced crossdrive transmission of the hydrokinetic type.
It includes a torque converter with automatic lockup clutch for smooth, efficient starts and stops, four-speed planetary-type range pack with reverse for excellent mobility, full-power Hydrostatic Steering Unit (HSU) for smooth, efficient turning and vehicle control and internally-mounted brake packs for controlled, full effort stops.
