The Survivor has been developed as a private venture by the Austrian company of Steyr-Daimler-Puch Fahrzeugtechnik AG & Co KG.

It is being marketed as a high mobility multipurpose wheeled armoured vehicle which is capable of being modified to undertake a wide range of battlefield roles and missions.

It is currently available in two wheelbase lengths and can be fitted with various diesel or petrol engine/automatic transmission combinations to suit specific users' operational requirements.

As of mid-2004, no details of any sales of the Survivor armoured vehicle were available.

Description

The Survivor is based on a commercial 4 × 4 chassis that has been fitted with an all-welded monocoque steel armour body that provides the occupants with protection from ball type small arms fire up to level B7. In addition it provides protection against hand grenades and 155 mm overhead burst artillery projectile fragments.

The power pack is at the front with the commander and driver to the immediate rear. Both left and right hand drive models of the Survivor are available with commander and driver each being provided with a forward opening door with a bulletproof window in its upper part. To the immediate front of the driver is a large bulletproof window that is provided with wipers and washers.

The troop compartment is at the rear of the vehicle and the occupants enter and leave via doors in the hull rear. Bulletproof windows with firing ports below can be provided if required by the customer in the rear troop compartment.

Various petrol or diesel engine options are available for the Survivor with all of these coupled to a four or five speed fully automatic transmission.

Standard equipment on the Survivor includes power steering on the front two wheels, permanent 4 × 4 drive with the driver selecting high or low range, 100 per cent differential locks, heating and heavy duty air-conditioning system, tyres with run flat inserts, 12 V or 24 V electric power supply and fitted for radio.

Optional equipment includes various roof-mounted fixed or retractable weapon stations, smoke grenade launcher system, intercom, global positioning system, various external radio systems, fire detection and suppression system, camouflage system, various types of day and night observation equipment.
