Oncilla - a new lightweight multi-purpose dual-axis armored vehicle developed by Lacenaire Limited Co in association with Polish company MISTA as its manufacturer.
4x4 driven Dual-Axis Armored Personnel Carrier can be effectively used in combat (including the use of weapons of mass destruction), and is able to perform its functions at any time and condition, no matter if it concerns a developed road network or off-road conditions. Dual-Axis Armored Personnel Carrier is intended to transport a squad of the armed forces or police, as a fire support in a combat, as a command, patrol or ambulance vehicle, as well as used as a self-propelled anti-tank complex with anti-tank systems.
Dual-Axis Armored Personnel Carrier Oncylla's layout has be made by an automotive scheme with location of an engine at front of a vehicle. The driver sits on the left, and the commander of the machine - on the right. Front and side windows provide them excellent visibility. The instrument panel in front of them is designed with the most modern ergonomic requirements. Behind the commander and driver's seat, there is a combat module situated. In the rear of the machine, there is troopers' compartment for 6 soldiers. The troopers and the gunner get in/off the vehicle through the backdoor at the rear wall of its. On the roof of the body of the troop compartment there is an escape hatch. For firing personal guns from an inside of the machine there are loopholes located on both side sand at the rear of the hull.
The hull is made of high-strength armored steel armor, which provides protection against standard armor-piercing ammunition 7.62 x 51 mm. By using an additional armor, protecting level can be developed to protect against 12,7 mm bullets of NATO standard (STANAG-4269). Inside, the vehicle's armor is equipped with ballistic protection lining. Bulletproof glass panes provide the crew with protection standard similar to basic armor protection. The bottom of the APC has a cylindrical shape for better protection against mines.
In order to absorb blast effect of mines, all the seats have special suspension structure. The seats are equipped with individual 4-point safety belts.
To clean outside air from dust, radioactive and toxic substances and bacterial agents, as well as to supply of filtered air into the crew compartment, filter-ventilation system is used. In a hot climate, HVAC system creates comfortable conditions for the crew and the troopers.
Turbocharged, diesel engine DEUTZ BF 4M 1013 FC, 190.5 HP is used a power unit. Simultaneous operation of the engine with 5-staged automatic transmission Allison S1000 and two-speed transfer box provides maximum driving speed of at least 105 km/h Armored personnel carrier is able to over come water obstacles of wading depth of up to 1 m. The independent suspension provides excellent driving performance, small turning radius and satisfactory comfort while overcoming the cross-country obstacles. Wheels with Michelin off-road tires and Hutchinson inner flanges keep the armored vehicle being able to move at a distance of 50 km even if all tires have got punctured.
Personnel carrier is equipped with modern means of internal and external communications, as well as a satellite navigation system.
As the main weapon 12.7 mm anti-aircraft machine gun system with a remote control from inside the vehicle is used. Aiming range of its is from -3 ° to +68 ° vertically and 360 ° horizontally. Ammunition contains 450 shots (3 belts of 150 bullets). Anti-aircraft machine gun system is equipped with an optical monocular periscope PZU-7 having the magnification field view of 1.2 to 50 °.
To enhance the combat capabilities of armored personnel carriers, the combat module can be developed with television fire control system (FCS), which is equipped with a laser rangefinder, thermal imager, color television cameras. FCS and weapons are adjusted in 2 planes. Firing is carried out remotely using a joystick and a 12-inch monitor.
Level of armor protection in standard configuration - 2 (STANAG 4569), after installation of outboard passive armor - 3 (STANAG 4569).
In standard APC system includes a central tire inflation system, power steering, communications and satellite navigation systems, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system, automatic fire engine compartment, filter installation, winch for self-recovery of 6.8 tons.
Thanks to its good capacity and high flexibility machine has a great margin for further modernization. At its base is possible to create the following types of machines:
