Designed to be mounted on tracked and wheeled combat vehicles, naval and river vessels and other carriers.

The BMP-2 Fighting Compartment is a unified fighting compartment with armament, fire-control system, ammunition stowages, vision devices, communication facilities, smoke grenade launching system, armour protection and is equipped with gunner's and commander's working places.

The armament of the BMP-2 Fighting Compartment includes a 30-mm double-belt feed automatic gun with horizontal and vertical stabilization, a 7.62-mm machine gun, mounted coaxially with the gun and a launcher for antitank guided missiles (ATGM) with semiautomatic guidance to fight armoured targets from the vehicle and outside it. The gun and coaxial machine gun elevation arc enables the vehicle effectively fight in mountainous and urban areas, perfectly hit ground and low-altitude targets. The automatic gun ensures constant combat readiness to open fire. The perfect fire-control system provides target designation and fire duplication by a commander.
