Designation:

ANGEL-120

Info
Manufacturer: Beijing Bao-Long Science and Technology Developing Corporation Ltd
Product type: Weapons & Weapon Systems
Name: Multiple rocket launcher

The 300 mm calibre (8-round) ANGEL-120 multiple rocket launcher, understood to have been developed by the Beijing Bao-Long Science & Technology Developing Incorporation Ltd, is based on a heavyweight 8 × 8 truck chassis fitted with a launcher assembly of two by four rocket tubes on its rear decking. When deployed in the firing position a number of stabilisers are lowered to the ground to provide a more stable firing platform.

Description

The guided rocket is stabilised in flight by a spin imparted to it at launch by the rocket tube and is fitted with a composite propellant rocket motor. The warhead fitted is a cluster munition type and can carry either 40 anti-personnel bomblets or 40 dual anti-personnel/anti armour bomblets.

Other warhead types such as a minelet carrying one can be developed according to customer requirements.

The guided 300 mm rocket comprises five major sub-systems, warhead, simplified guidance control system, propellant, stabilising system and the actual rocket structure. The rocket has wraparound fins, which unfold as the rocket leaves the launcher.

The lethal radius of one rocket round is stated to be 100 m while the full 8-round salvo can cover a 300 m radius.

A typical ANGEL-120 battery would comprise four launcher vehicles, two rocket resupply vehicles with 32 reloads in total, a fire direction (control) vehicle, technical support facilities and a truck-mounted crane.

The manufacturer claims the following key advantages for the ANGEL-120 artillery rocket system: high mobility, long range, high accuracy, great lethality and high volume of fire.

It is also claimed that the ANGEL-120 has a number of advanced features including a simplified guidance system, cluster type warhead, composite solid propellant motor and rocket spin imparted by the launch tube when the rocket is launched.

Status

As of early 2008, the exact status of the ANGEL-120 system is uncertain. Offered for export. As far as it is known, the ANGEL-120 is not used by the People's Liberation Army.
