Designation:

Iron Wall

Info
Manufacturer: I.M.I. Israel Military Industries Ltd
Product type: Protection Systems
Name: Bar Armour

Iron Wall is designed to defeat Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) employing Explosively Formed Penetrator (EFP) and Self Formed Fragmentation (SFF) charges.

Compared to equivalent Rolled Homogenous Steel Armor (RHA), Iron Wall offers superior protection, with lower weight. Based on a hybrid compound of composite materials and metal, an appliqué of IRON WALL adds only 110-150mm to the base armor. According to the level of protection required, Iron Wall is available at an aerial weight of 200~230 kg/m2.

IMI offers Iron Wall as a fully developed add-on solution for the protection of light and medium armored vehicles. It has been successfully demonstrated to protect vehicles against EFP and SFF IEDs.

The heavier system proposed is BREAKWATER, a reactive armour that includes metal and composite elements aimed at defeating the three major threats: RPGs, SFFs and EFPs. IMI carried out a thorough testing campaign and is now proceeding with qualification to see the 350 to 400mm and 430-450kg/m2 solution being available for production in late 2013.
