2A29 anti-tank gun is a further development of 2A19 anti-tank gun. It was developed by Jurge city plant No.75 Design Bureau of Soviet Union at the end of 60-ties. It was serially produced at the same plant.

New anti-tank gun had the main construction design of 2A19. It has improved mount which fits better 100-mm gun requirements, than mount, used by 85-mm gun D-48. New mount distinguishes increased durability. It's chassis use ZIL-150 serial truck wheels. Wheels have torsion susspension, fitted with hydraulic absorbers which block wheels during fireing what increases gun's stability and fire accuracy as well.

Metal bearing placed under mount intended to change position in the battlefield and used with 2A19 gun remained in the new mount. In combat position it is turned upward the left mount.

"Rapira's" ordinary transport vehicle is armored tracked transporter MT-LB, which transports it's crew and part of amunition load as well. Transporter is armed with 7.62-mm PKT multipurpose machine gun, placed in the armored turret. Maximum road towing speed is 60 km/h and cross-country - 15 km/h. Moving on the snow or swamp terrain there could be used special gun ski LO-7.

2A29 executes fire with all 2A19 gun projectile types. Among 20 rounds placed in the MT-LB transporter, 10 are anti-tank projectiles, 4 - High Explosion Fragmentation and 6 cumulative projectiles. "Rapira" is fitted with new 9M117 "Kastet" 100-mm anti-tank guided missile fired from the gun as ordinary projectile. Missile guiding system is based on laser sight. Such system equipment is mounted on the gun. It has 100 - 4 000 m firing range. Missile pierces 660 mm of armor covered with dynamic armour packages.

Recently developed improved "Rapira's" modification was indexed as MT-12P. It is fitted with radiolocation sight, used in unpleasant meteorological conditions and when battlefield is covered with a thick smoke.
