Type 82

Info
Manufacturer: NORINCO - China North Industries Group Corporation - CNGC
Product type: Weapons & Weapon Systems
Name: Multiple rocket launcher

The NORINCO (China North Industries Corporation) 130 mm Type 82 multiple rocket system is an improved version of the NORINCO 130 mm Type 63/70 family which is covered in detail in a separate entry.

The Type 82 consists of a 6 × 6 cross-country truck with a four-door, fully enclosed forward control cab. To the rear of this are 30 reserve rockets for immediate use and, at the very rear of the chassis is a 130 mm rocket launcher with three layers of 10 tubes each.

Two salvos, each of 30 unguided rockets, can be launched in five minutes. The system would then rapidly redeploy to avoid counterbattery fire.

As the rocket launcher is mounted at the very rear of the chassis the forward control cab is not fitted with any armoured shutters for its windows.

The launcher is also mounted on the top of the NORINCO Type 85 tracked APC to improve its cross-country capability. The Type 85 full tracked APC is also referred to as the NORINCO YW 531 H and production has now been completed. Full details are given in a separate entry.

There is also a 1.05 m long single man-portable tripod-mounted launcher tube for a 130 mm rocket which is designed for use by commando, guerrilla or special forces units.

This can be disassembled into small loads for carriage-launch tube 10.5 kg, tripod 11.9 kg, sight 1.2 kg and remote firing device 1.25 kg. Its elevation range is +5 to +40° and its traverse range 7° to the left or right. Time to bring the weapon into action is about 1¾ minutes and to disengage between 1½ and 2 minutes.
