For new armoured fighting vehicle projects or the re-engining of existing vehicles, MTU now proposes its new Series 2000 diesel engines which are now being prepared for these applications.
These engines, available as six- and eight-cylinder models, are based on the latest Mercedes-Benz 500 Series engines. In addition to high power density, low fuel consumption and long life, they are claimed to offer the advantage of meeting the emission requirement according to EURO 2 and most probably future requirements which are not at present known.
According to MTU, these engines are possible contenders for the future VBM/GTK/MRAV wheeled armoured vehicle project as well as an upgrade package for the current Marder 1 used in large numbers by the German Army.
