The DN-VI is a 4 × 4 APC which in some respects is similar to the French Renault Trucks Defense VAB (4 × 4 and 6 × 6) series of vehicles that have been built in large numbers for the home and export markets.
This has also been referred to as the Ocelote and is understood to be based on a US-designed Dodge truck chassis. Later vehicles, however, are based on a Mercedes-Benz UNIMOG (4 × 4) U1300L or U1600L (4 × 4) truck chassis. It should be noted that this chassis is no longer manufactured.
This vehicle is powered by a Mercedes-Benz six-cylinder diesel, which gives a maximum road speed of 100 km/h and a maximum range of 1,000 km on roads. Armament comprises two externally mounted HK21A1 7.62 mm machine guns.
There may be a number of other variants including reconnaissance vehicle, command post vehicle, armoured cargo carrier and an armoured ambulance. A fire support vehicle with a 90 mm turret was proposed, but it is understood that this never entered service.
