The Sichuan Aerospace Industry Corporation (SCAIC) is currently marketing a 122 mm (40-round) Multiple Launcher Rocket Weapon System (MLRWS).

The photographs released by SCAIC show the NORINCO (China North Industries Corporation) 122 mm (40-round) Type 89 system based on a tracked chassis and the NORINCO 122 mm (40-round) Type 81 system on a 6 × 6 chassis.

It is considered possible that SCAIC is offering a new generation of 122 mm unguided surface-to-surface rockets as well as a new computerised fire-control system.

According to SCAIC, the 122 mm rockets can be fitted with various types of warhead including blasting, submunition and cloud blasting. It is probable that the last of these is of the fuel air explosive type. All these 122 mm rockets are claimed to be capable of being launched from any 122 mm rocket launcher of Chinese or foreign manufacture. It should be noted that NORINCO also manufactures and markets a 122 mm rocket with a maximum range of 40 km. This is slightly different in specifications to the SCAIC 122 mm rockets.

A new command vehicle based on a forward control German MAN (6 × 6) cross-country chassis has been mentioned, which contains a new digital firing command system.
