There are many exciting military applications for KEVLAR®. Fragment- and bullet-resistant vests of KEVLAR® have protected thousands of military and law enforcement personnel from death and serious injury. Helmets of KEVLAR® are 25 to 40% more resistant to fragments than their steel predecessors at equal weight.
KEVLAR® is up to five times stronger than steel on an equal-weight basis. It does not melt or shrink in flame, and only carbonizes at very high temperatures (greater than 840 degrees F.) It's also extremely resistant to a broad range of threats including vehicle accidents, falls, fires, explosions, cuts, etc. KEVLAR® offers excellent resistance to water and petroleum products, including motor oil and lubricants, and it has superior chemical resistance and is chemically stable under a wide variety of exposure conditions.
Military applications for KEVLAR® include vests, helmets, gloves, parachutists' rough terrain suits, anti-mine boots, mine removal chaps, explosive ordnance disposal suits and ballistic blankets.
