NBC-Sys : Decontamination, Protection and Detection systems

NBC-Sys, a business unit of Giat-Industries, is located in Saint-Chamond, France.

NBC-Sys specialises in Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Protection, Decontamination and Detection systems and has experience in the air purification treatment of armoured vehicles, having installed systems on all generations of vehicles, including those produced by Giat-Industries.

In operational theatres, the NBC threat is ever present. Recent conflicts have demonstrated how vital it is to provide troops with protected structures in which they can avoid having to wear individual protective systems. When combined with optimised air conditioning, these collective protective systems enhance the fighting man's operational capability, particularly in severe or extreme climates.

Today these factors are essential in the design of modern weapons systems. They make it possible to continue, for some time, operations in an NBC environment, and in themselves, they constitute a significant deterrent to the NBC threat.

For many years, NBC-Sys has designed and built integral NBC systems for armoured and other vehicles and for a variety of mobile facilities (mobile and fixed shelters, soft skin structures, surface ships, etc.)

These protective systems can be designed either for incorporation into new generation programmes or for the retrofitting of existing equipment.

For these different applications, collective protection systems incorporate some or all of the following functions :

* Dynamic or static pre-filtration

* NBC (and industrial gas) filtration (aerosols and vapours)

* Ventilation and pressurisation of crew compartments

* Air conditioning with collective or individual supply

* Control and regulation of pressure, temperature and relative humidity.

* The collective protection systems may either be built to a compact design in a single unit or divided up by function, where possible, according to the space available. They can be mounted either in the toxic free area or the polluted (vapour) side as circumstances allow.

The interchangeable filters can be either outside or inside the crew compartment according to the type of filter and their mode of operation. In this context, the exact matching of the NB/AC function to the weapon system requires comprehensive expertise in the design of systems, components and filters.

With this in mind, NBC-Sys specifies, develops, manufactures and inspects the components and the integration of these systems - notably the NBC (and industrial) filters which are the safety feature.

NBC-Sys has participated in systems for a wide range of vehicles :

AMX 10, AMX 30 B2 and the AMX group of tank, SHAHINE, LECLERC family. Collective protection systems for APC's (CV 90 Hägglunds and others APC's), VAB air conditioning system

NBC-Sys's range of NBC Filters :

It covers flow rates of 12, 60, 90, 170, 340 and 600 m3/h, using composite filters technology which incorporates the anti-aerosols stages (HEPA filter) and anti-vapour stages (impregnated activated carbon) in a single filter . These filters meet the NATO and the French army standards. All these filters also exist in the ABEK/NBC version (wide spectrum filtering, NBC and industrial gases) and in a peace time version (interchangeable with NBC filters).

In its range of products NBC-Sys provides :

Decontamination systems :

* SDA : thorough decontamination system for vehicles

* SDMS : decontamination system for sensitive material

* Symoda : decontamination system for aircraft

* Personnal decontamination line (civil defence)

Individual protection :

* Gas mask ( soldiers and helicopter pilots)

* Filter canister (NBC NATO , ABEK, Wide spectrum)

* Evacuation hoods (civil defence)

Detection systems :

* Toxic chemical detection kit (KDTC)

* Individual neurotoxic control detector (DETINDIV)

NBC-Sys can also develop and deliver systems integrating both these different products to the special requirements of each customer.
