With their personnel deployed in a growing number of new and often hazardous areas of operation, procuring effective force protection systems has become a top priority for the modern military. Rheinmetall Chempro is one of the world's leading producers of passive protection systems for wheeled and tracked armoured vehicles. In recent years, Rheinmetall Chempro has equipped more than 20,000 vehicles with highly sophisticated protection systems. Since the beginning of 2007, Rheinmetall Defence has held a 51% stake in the company, with the remainder owned by IBD Deisenroth through the Deisenroth family. In its capacity as an independent engineering bureau, IBD Deisenroth's research and development unit at Lohmar (near Bonn) works to enhance the effectiveness of existing Chempro products as well as pushing forward the bounds of protection technology with a variety of forward-looking new developments. Rheinmetall Chempro is one of only a handful of internationally operating companies that is capable not only of supplying conventional protection technology but also able to produce ceramic composite materials, and then integrate them into various vehicle systems either as modular or original equipment. A combination of high-quality materials results in protection systems which far exceed the standards contained in NATO STANAG specifications. Advanced weapon systems like the Puma infantry fighting vehicle and the Leopard 2 main battle tank owe their superb survivability to products from Rheinmetall Chempro GmbH. Protecting existing vehicle systems is one of our core competencies. Effective protection is the outcome of continuous development: the key to keeping friendly forces a step ahead of the continuously evolving threat. For example, Rheinmetall Chempro has developed a comprehensive mine protection solution for the M113 armoured personnel carrier, still in service in the armed forces of numerous nations, as well as highly effective solutions for wheeled armoured vehicles like the Fuchs/Fox armoured transport vehicle and the Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV). Working in close cooperation with Rheinmetall Defence and IBD Deisenroth, Rheinmetall Chempro also develops new customer-specific solutions for future vehicle generations, making sure they are more than a match for tomorrow's symmetric and asymmetric threats. Efficiently structured processes and cutting-edge manufacturing technology enable fast production and ready integration of customer-specific solutions. |
