The MDT Armor/Textron Marine & Land Systems Tiger combat vehicle is a survivable, cost effective light protected all-terrain vehicle that seats two to nine crewmembers. Mine and blast protection levels are available via various add-on armor options.
Based on a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) Dodge RAM 5500 platform, the Tiger utilizes standard Dodge maintenance and service. The Tiger incorporates a powerful Cummins 350 HP diesel engine, a highly protected armored capsule, large military standard tires, and a 127-inch wheel base, offering exceptional mobility. Its advanced suspension ensures a comfortable ride for the crew.
Tiger’s five doors and roof hatch offer easy loading and unloading of personnel and equipment. The spacious cabin, with exceptional payload capacity, can be reconfigured for various missions.
The MDT Tiger Light Protected Vehicle was designed to be cost effective. The COTS Dodge platform ensures widespread support and cost effective maintenance. The unique encapsulated cabin permits easy access to all components. The capsule can easily be removed and remounted, allowing its installation on a new platform, increasing its life and ensuring low lifecycle cost.
The Dodge RAM 5500 heavy duty platform is one of the best 4X4 commercial platforms in its category. A powerful 6.7-liter Cummins® Turbo water cooled diesel engine boosting 400 HP and 610 Ib-ft torque is coupled with an AISIN® six-speed automatic transmission and transfer case. This powertrain, with its unique factory-installed exhaust brake, easily handles the 8.8 ton, 19,500-lb GVW Tiger, even at 60% slopes.
The Tiger capsule is a square "box", with vertical walls and a unique flat floor throughout the entire cabin, from firewall to rear door. It is very spacious, measuring 3120X1900X1325 mm (137" X 73" X 51"). The wide cabin, which has a flat floor throughout, allows for three front-row seats, comfortably seating passengers in full battle gear. Configurations include driver, navigator and commander, or driver and two security personnel.
Five doors and seat mounting floor rails enable various interchangeable seating arrangements, including seating for eight forward-facing passengers, or three forward facing and eight side-by-side passengers. The roof hatch has a standard weapons ring, which allows for mounting a variety of weapons and equipment.
Situation awareness is achieved with eight windows - one large, single pane windshield, windows in each of the five doors and two rear side windows.
The OEM in-dash air conditioning system is augmented with a rear AC unit, with a full nuclear, biological, and chemical (NBC) system as an option.
The Tiger utilizes a ballistic system with add-on layers, offering various levels of armor protection. Add-on armor panels are all replaceable, repairable, and upgradeable.
All windows, including the windshield, offer the same ballistic qualities. A slatted grill and side panels offer protection for the engine.
Optional swivel-type gun ports can be mounted in all windows, including the windshield. The unique design locks barrels in place, eliminating the risk of discharging inside the capsule, while allowing the use of the weapon's sights through the glass window, leaving the barrel opening as the only exposed area when weapons are in use.
Using a commercial off-the-shelf platform reduces initial cost, reduces spare parts costs and reduces maintenance costs. The unique capsule approach allows for easily remounting the capsule on a new pickup truck chassis, which significantly reduces lifecycle costs over the life of the capsule.
