In 2002, the U.S. Army purchased 17 driving simulators to train operators of trucks and heavy vehicles. The Army system are functionally very similar to the USMC MTVR simulators utilizing the same core software, instructor station, and curriculum, but for Army vehicles.

The Army has a wide variety of trucks which require driver training - from FMTV's up through heavy tank haulers. FAAC created a reconfigurable truck driving trainer to handle six types of vehicles:

Every Army ODS is capable of simulating any of the above vehicles. Additionally, to provide for further realism, FAAC developed three replica cab types - a M915 cab, a FMTV cab, and a heavy cab that is capable of being configured to represent PLS, HEMTT, or HET.

The 17 ODS simulators are installed at Ft. Leonard Wood, Ft. Eustis, and Ft. Bliss. The Army purchased a mix of simulator configurations - two full 6-DOF motion simulators with 180 degrees field-of-view, ten with 3-DOF motion seats and 225 degree field-of-view, and the remaining five with 3-DOF motion seats and 180 degree field-of-view (scheduled to be upgraded to 225 degree field-of-view as soon as funding becomes available).

Featured in the Army ODS is a six level training curriculum, with levels ranging from Beginner Driver up through Advanced Tactical Driver. The curriculum tracks the driver as he/she progresses in skill level, presenting more difficult scenarios as skill level warrants. Key to the curriculum is the scoring system, which monitors in real time over 50 driving parameters. Whenever a customer-defined threshold is exceeded on any parameter, the instructor is alerted via the IOS page shown below. Demerit points are assigned to the driver's score as a function of skill level and scenario. If a driver fails a scenario (failing to achieve a score of 80), the curriculum manager recommends to the instructor a remedial scenario for the student.

For 2003, the Army has purchased four additional simulators. Two of these will be installed at Ft. Leonard Wood (resulting in a total of 16 Army ODS simulators at that site). A full 6-DOF motion simulator will be installed in Germany and a mobile trailer mounted simulator will be fielded in Korea.
