Protection. Payload. Performance

These three fundamental tenants inspired BAE Systems and Navistar to name their JLTV the Valanx™.

Valanx evokes the meaning of a phalanx – an ancient Greek formation designed to protect soldiers in combat – but introduces the “V” characteristic. The Valanx has a signature V-shaped hull, designed to deflect a mine blast away from the vehicle, protecting the soldiers inside.

The BAE Systems-Navistar Valanx carries the ethos of the phalanx. Every part of the vehicle was designed, built and engineered with the purpose of ensuring one strong vehicle package – or formation – to give warfighters unmatched battlefield survivability and mission success.

Just as the phalanx protected the ancient Greek soldiers, the Valanx will help shield what’s inside – the service members defending America.

Warfighter-Centric Design

The Valanx is built around the needs of today’s troops, and that is exactly where the design of the vehicle began. BAE Systems and Navistar engineered the Valanx to create a vehicle with unmatched payload, protection and performance.

The Warfighter was the inspiration for the Valanx as human factors drove the design. The vehicle was built from the “inside out” using top-down systems engineering. The size provides agility of movement and comfort for troops, while still appearing small on the outside.

Flexibility and Commonality

The Valanx’s modular plug-and-play design ensures unmatched capability today and into the future. It meets all payload, protection and performance requirements of the JLTV program today.

The system will be compatible with current and future network architectures to ensure ease of supply chain process and maximize and maintain the value. Its modular design maximizes commonality across JLTV variants and enables the seamless integration of future technologies.

Ready Now

The majority of Valanx’s components are at TRL 7 (Technology Readiness Level), which means the team has demonstrated Valanx prototypes in an operational environment.

Commercial technology advancements were leveraged in the Valanx design. The design also facilitates the use of active protection and other advanced survivability solutions.
